Schroyer Sacked

by Basketball

University of Wyoming Athletic Director Tom Burman announced the firing of head basketball coach Heath Schroyer today. The firing is effective immediately and Associate Head Coach Fred Langley will run the team the remainder of the season. Schroyer has three years left on his contract and will be paid $160,000 per season according to the terms of his contract. Schroyer had a record of 49-68 during his time as Wyoming’s head man and was credited for improving the programs academic standing. With the teams struggles on the court though he never really won over the fan base, and attendance at home games was becoming sparse.

We all saw this coming but no one would have predicted that he would be fired before the end of the season based on Burman’s prior comments. For a list of potential candidates to take over for Schroyer next year see 7220 Report’s  earlier series,Wyoming Basketball Coach Wish List: Part 1, Part 2. These lists are truly wish lists and no consideration of cost or interest from the coach was taken into account. We will have another list of more realistic names soon now that the job is actually open.
