Can Christensen Break Through Against A Ranked Team?

by Football

Since Dave Christensen has taken over the Wyoming football program, the Cowboys have played seven ranked teams and own a 0-7 record. Here is the breakdown:

2009

#2 Texas L 41-10

#16 Utah L 22-10

#25 BYU L 52-10

#4 TCU L 45-10

2010

#5 Texas L 34-7

#5 TCU L 45-0

#11 Utah L 30-6

The avergae score in these games has been a 38-6 loss for the Cowboys, with the only real competitive game being the 22-10 defeat at Utah where Wyoming entered the fourth quarter with a 10-9 lead. These string of results heading into a game versus #9 ranked Nebraska doesn’t leave much room for hope and I don’t expect Wyoming to win the game but I would look for improvement as a positive sign going forward. In each of these games Christensen has said the Cowboys have nothing to lose but then they come out with a conservative game-plan and play not to win. He has made this statement yet again and let’s hope it is not baseless bravado. With a new and improved quarterback and better depth on both sides of the ball I would think the Cowboys could stay in the game well into the second half and not get blown out as they predictably have versus ranked teams the past two seasons. There are no moral victories in football but it would be good for the psyche of the program to give Nebraska a game on Saturday night and not be the bottom feeders we are expected to be.
